Hurricane Florence proved to be one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit the United States. With blustering winds, high storm surge, and a tremendous amount of rain, Florence caused heavy destruction to the Carolinas.

History of Florence

Hurricane Florence began as a small tropical wave coming off the coast of Africa. Due to the conditions being just right in the Atlantic, the tropical wave quickly strengthened into a Category 4 Hurricane. The east coast of the United States was told well in advance to prepare for landfall, by fortifying homes and evacuating.

On September 14th, Hurricane Florence made landfall. Those who lay in the wake of this major storm had about 35 inches of rain dropped on them, resulting in major flooding. Strong winds brought on massive storm surge, causing damage to homes and the road. Those who had decided to stay and wait out the storm were urged to seek higher shelter as the flood waters continued to rise.

After the storm had passed, the coast of the Carolinas was left with heavy destruction. There was no power, leaving streets and homes dark at night. Homes were destroyed, making them uninhabitable, and forcing the inhabitants to search for shelter elsewhere and wait until the daytime to figure out how to begin to fix the devastation left behind.

Community and Service

After Florence’s pounding of the East Coast, the United States came together to help those affected by the storm get back on their feet. Many organizations were set up to get fresh drinking water and food down to the survivors of the storm. Our expert roofers at Gleason Home Improvements knew that we had to do whatever we could to help our neighbors on the east coast. We answered the call by putting together a team to head towards the destruction areas to help rebuild homes that were destroyed in the storm.

We worked diligently alongside homeowners to help restore roofs, siding, and any other project we could get our hands on. We were inspired by the bravery, hope, and faith displayed by the survivors of Hurricane Florence. The way the community came together to support one another was a reminder that the only thing that matters in this world is the relationship we build with others. Working together, the community was able to rally and rebuild, turning a disaster into a heartwarming story that will follow the men at Gleason Home Improvements for many years to come.

We are honored and blessed to have been able to help and work alongside such amazing people. This experience presses our drive to further help our own community in ensuring that people receive safe, beautiful, and reliable housing improvements so that they can continue focusing on what matters, each other.

This is our pledge that we will continue to work hard and improve our skills so that we can continue working for our community, and the next time disaster strikes, you can guarantee that we will be there, ready to lend a hand.
